Title:
How do the best hitters and pitchers in the game Hit and Pitch?  A Longitudinal Biomechanical Study.

Purpose:   
The purpose of this study is to investigate live swings and pitches of the major league players and all-stars, during the 2007, 2008 and 2009 seasons.  Video data capturing will begin at Spring Training 2007 and continue with selected regular season games in 2007, 2008 and 2009.  The best effort possible will be made to get into one or more Major League all-star games during this study.

Subjects:                                                                                                        Current: Major League players and all-stars.  A select group of minor league and college players. In addition, Bio-Kinetics will include major league players from its databank.  A conservative effort will also be made using new technologies to go back in time to look at some of the best players in the game’s history. 

Instrumentation:                                                                                            Arial Computerized 3- D Motion Analysis System; of high-speed cameras. The Ariel Performance Analysis System (APAS) is the world's most advanced computerized system for biomechanical analysis and the study of human motion. For the first time, professionals whose work involves the measurement, assessment, or improvement of human performance have, at their disposal, a computerized and fully integrated tool kit for biomechanical measurement and analysis. Areas of successful application for the APAS include athletic performance, injury and rehabilitation assessment as well as applied research in the areas of orthopedic medicine, therapeutics, and physical training. 

Staff:                                                                                                            The ABCA research committee and Bio-Kinetics R&D will work with a team of scientists as well as Major League, College, and High School Pitching and Hitting Coaches.
